Dark Roast Yaupon Tea
Darkly roasted, wild harvested yaupon. A rich, robust range of flavors—deeper, earthier, with a touch of toasted caramel and subtle chocolate notes. Yaupon is nearly free of tannins, so it avoids the harsh bitterness of many black teas. Like all Lost Pines Yaupon Tea, it contains the perfect balance of caffeine and theobromine for a focused, jitter-free buzz. Theobromine, the pleasure molecule found in dark chocolate, enhances feelings of well-being, contentment, and focus.
Whereas our Light Roast is closer to green tea, the Dark Roast is closer to black tea—full-bodied, warming, and satisfying. Perfect for mornings, evenings, or anytime you crave a comforting, energizing cup with depth and character.
A Little History of Yaupon
Yaupon is the only caffeinated plant native to North America, with a history that stretches back to the time before Europeans arrived in the New World. Native Americans revered it for its energizing, healing, and ceremonial uses. The Cherokees called it “the beloved tree,” and it was used in daily drinks as well as in important rituals known as Black Drink.
Lost Pines Yaupon Tea
Founded in 2015 in Austin, Texas, by three friends—Jason Ellis, Heidi Wachter, and John Seibold—Lost Pines Yaupon Tea was born from curiosity, experimentation, and a love for the natural world. Our Dark Roast is harvested from the unique Lost Pines Forest in Bastrop, Texas, home to loblolly pines and the critically endangered Houston Toad. By thinning yaupon in the forest, we help restore habitat for the toads and support the health of the forest ecosystem.
50 individually packed tea bags make it easy to enjoy a taste of the Lost Pines wherever you are. Full-bodied, energizing, and environmentally mindful—this is yaupon the way it’s meant to be.
